A 75-year-old woman allegedly fatally shot her 84-year-old boyfriend during an altercation, Simi Valley Police officials said Monday.

Simi Valley police were called to the home in the 6200 block of Anastasia Avenue about 4:15 p.m. Sunday to check the well-being of the resident, police said in a news release.

Officers found Salvatore Orefice partially covered and with a gunshot wound, police said.

While police were at the scene, Mary Karacas, 75, arrived in the home and told investigators that she shot Orefice during an altercation.

She added that she had a “long-standing relationship” with the victim.

She was arrested and booked into the Ventura County jail on suspicion of murder, police said.
