Cristiano Ronaldo is to have an airport named after him on his native island of Madeira after Portugal's Euro 2016 success. The Real Madrid star already has a bronze statue, a museum and a hotel bearing his name in the island's capital city of Funchal, but will soon see the main airport rechristened the Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo airport. Local governor Miguel Albuquerque confirmed the decision, according to  Mundo Deportivo,  with the 31-year-old superstar currently back on the island after holidaying in Ibiza. Sam Allardyce has been appointed England manager. The 61-year-old signed an initial two-year deal after compensation was agreed with Sunderland, whom he steered to Premier League safety last season. He succeeds Roy Hodgson, who quit after England were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the last 16 by Iceland. Allardyce's first game in charge will be a friendly at Wembley on Thursday, 1 September against as yet unnamed opponents. His first competitive match will be in Slovakia on 4 September as England begin their qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has backed the appointment of Sam Allardyce as England manager.  "He is the right person," Mourinho said of the Sunderland boss. "He is more than ready. He is a good motivator and can create a good team spirit." Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson told BBC Sport: "Sam's been in English football for a long time. He's always been doing very well." Allardyce's appointment is expected to be confirmed on Thursday. Mourinho, speaking on United's pre-season tour of China, added: "I wish him the best. Mary Karacas booking photo A 75-year-old woman allegedly fatally shot her 84-year-old boyfriend during an altercation, Simi Valley Police officials said Monday. Simi Valley police were called to the home in the 6200 block of Anastasia Avenue about 4:15 p.m. Sunday to check the well-being of the resident, police said in a news release. Officers found Salvatore Orefice partially covered and with a gunshot wound, police said. While police were at the scene, Mary Karacas, 75, arrived in the home and told investigators that she shot Orefice during an altercation. She added that she had a “long-standing relationship” with the victim. She was arrested and booked into the Ventura County jail on suspicion of murder, police said.

Gary Harrington of Eagle Point, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and to pay a fine of $1,500, all because he had three reservoirs on his own property, that he used to collect and use rainwater. Harrington says he plans to appeal the conviction in the Jackson County Circuit Court. That conviction revolved around nine misdemeanor charges that come from a 1925 law. That archaic ordinance bans what state water managers called “illegal reservoirs.” “The government is bullying,” Harrington said in an CNS News, last Thursday. “They’ve just gotten to be big bullies and if you just lay over and die and give up, that just makes them bigger bullies.
